Leading in times of crisis

crisis management

I would love to begin with this quote :

“Those who are the happiest are not necessarily those for whom life has been easiest. Emotional stability results from an attitude. It is refusing to yield to depression and fear, even when black clouds float overhead. It is improving that which can be improved and accepting that which is inevitable.”― James C. Dobson

We all have been posting videos, and doing workshops and motivational talks & it’s really inspiring in these trying times but today I want to strive on an important aspect of life.

Emotional Stability is about how to be resilient, focused on staying active, and getting back up after you get knocked down hard.

In a global health crisis, everyone is vulnerable to mental distress. The sense of uncertainty constantly present during the COVID-19 pandemic leads to anxiety, and this anxiety leads people to fear. Emotions are powerful. They influence your thoughts, decisions, and behavior. And with the pandemic looming over our heads, emotions can go haywire. That’s why, during these times, the importance of emotional stability shines.

The 3 key factors to approach your life with is:

1) Adjust your Perspective

Often, during times of crisis, we tend to focus on the negativity. Instead, we should reflect on the positive experiences we’ve had and express gratitude for the lessons we’ve learned, such as adapting to remote work, cherishing moments with family, and exploring hobbies we may not have pursued otherwise. These are the fundamental blessings we should acknowledge: having a home, a family, food, and employment.

2) Check your Expectations

We all want life to be smooth but it is never that way as they truly say life is a roller coaster ride and you are caught off guard & during these times your true self is exposed. Those who expect that life will have challenges and disappointments will be the most resilient and emotionally stable.

3) Create an Action Plan

Emotional turmoil is difficult to escape and it depresses your entire system. When we feel bad, we have less energy, less motivation, less willpower, and fewer ideas & so moving life forward is key to emotional health because it’s the ultimate sign that you haven’t given up, thus creating action plans & taking action on them will help you to reinforce your emotional stability.

Why is it important to be Emotionally Stable in your professional life ????

• Greater Ability to Focus

Adversities tend to have different effects on people and that too when you least expect it. We get anxious and end up doing things that are not what we really want to do. Being emotionally stable, you can maintain your focus no matter how difficult or challenging things may become. You prevent your emotions from controlling you therefore you stay in control. You can think and analyze the situation better, allowing you to come up with a solution.

• Confidence

Rejections and criticisms are an inevitable part of life. No matter what you do, you can’t please everybody. Still, it doesn’t mean that you can’t feel down or get hurt when you do receive them. However, when you’re emotionally stable, you feel more secure about yourself. Despite the pain, you won’t allow it to stop you from reaching your goals. You have the confidence to move forward.

• Have a Positive Outlook

A positive outlook is essential in times of uncertainty. When you’re placed in an uncertain situation, you’re removed from your “safe” zone. When this happens, you feel anxiety, doubt, and fear. These emotions tend to make you think about the worst things that could happen.

Having emotional stability can prevent you from drowning in negative thoughts, and instead, have a positive outlook and hope for the situation. A hope that whatever you’re experiencing right now shall pass, and a positive outlook that you can overcome the challenge that you’re currently facing.

• Keep you Healthy

Poor physical health can affect your mental and emotional health. But at the same time, poor mental and emotional health can also affect your physical health. For example, the known symptoms of COVID-19 such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and aches and pains, can also be caused by anxiety.

In these times where your health is your most important asset, keeping yourself (and your employees) healthy is crucial. When you are emotionally stable, you lessen the risk of your emotions wreaking havoc on your physical and mental health.

Keeping this in mind let us stay FOCUSSED and create a positive world around us. These are the times you should be ready to help those in need and if anyone wants your guidance/counseling/ advice and if you are gifted do it for your satisfaction and growth…
